No matter how many styles exist out there, that speak about rebelling against authority, none would ever come close to the glory of Punk. This is the music that stands for rebelling against any and all forms of oppression. Alas, this music of the rebels has fallen from its former glory and today there are only a handful of bands that still adhere to this style. Multinational Corporations is one such duo, hailing from Lahore, Pakistan.
Physics states that, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. And the magnitude of that reaction is proportional to the magnitude of the action that instigated it. The same principle applies to this band, where the oppression in Pakistan is the action and the angst and anger that this band vents in the form of their music, is the reaction.
Ofcourse, I am talking about the band's latest release, 'Jamat-al-Maut', which was made available to the public on 23rd March, 2014. The style of music here, is that sweet spot between grindcore and crust punk. It is the type of music that you simply cannot stop moshing to. The record kicks off on a very strong note with 'Fuck your Patriotism' as chaotic drums and distorted punk riffs greet the listeners. Adding more anger to the music is the voice of Hassan Umer.
The songs stick to the grindcore / crust tradition of short run times. Despite that, the tracks manage to make a strong statement. The chaotic grind parts and the slower groove parts are present in such a proportion that monotony is not at all an issue here. Production wise too, this band adheres to the raw sound that this genre is known for.
The anger contained within these two guys is represented both musically, by Sheraz Ahmed's instrumentation and the lyrically, by the words of Hassan Umer. My only gripe with this album is that it feels a bit too short. I enjoyed every track on the record and I would have loved to hear more from the band. I guess I'll have to wait a bit more for that. This record is strongly recommended to anyone who is remotely interested in punk or just wants to vent some anger for a few minutes.
